Focusing on the finer details of language and style, the goal is to improve clarity, coherence, and elegance at the sentence and paragraph level. This type of editing involves refining the prose, tightening the writing, and polishing the language to enhance its impact and readability.
Who it's for: The main structure and plot of your story is written but now you're looking for a deeper edit to check its readability at a sentence and paragraph level.
Deliverables: The manuscript with marginal comments using track changes (Microsoft Word). Plus an editorial letter explaining the feedback made in the manuscript

Copy Edit
This involves correcting errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, style, and terminology. A style guide is used to ensure consistency, usually the Chicago Manual of style but this is dependent on your preference as the author.
Who it's for: You are happy with your novel, the flow has been addressed and now you are looking to reach a pre-publication standard.
Deliverables: Edits to the manuscript correcting errors in-line as well as margin comments using track changes (Microsoft word).

This is the final stage of editing before publication, focusing on detecting and correcting errors that may have been missed during previous rounds of editing.
